Description of Service / Activities

The Isle of Wight Branch of Asthma UK

The Isle of Wight Branch of the National Asthma Campaign was formed in 1981 (then known as The Asthma Society and Friends of teh Asthma Research Council). The aims now, as they were in 1981, remain:

  • To raise awareness of the problems of asthma diagnosis, treatment, quality of life and the need for research.
  • To educate patients, carers and health professionals about asthma.
  • To encourage people with asthma to expect to lead a normal life with minimum medication
  • To lobby the decision makers to take steps to ensure that the environment, both indoors and outdoors is safe for people with asthma.

The Branch organises quarterly meetings for members, these include the following:

  • Open educational meetings for specific grouops of carers e.g. teachers and youth group leaders
  • Annual Barbeque
  • Annual General Meeting with Speaker
  • Christmas Lunch
