What is the Wightmark?
The Isle of Wight Rural Community Council in conjunction with the Voluntary
and Community Sector on the Island have developed a Quality Assurance
Framework for organisations working with Children, Young People and
Families, this is called Wightmark
The Wightmark is a recognised precursor to organisations being
commissioned to deliver services by the Isle of Wight Council
Originally Wightmark outlined 13 criteria under three headings, Safety, Resources and Customers which organisations are required to meet. The standards are intended to be challenging but achievable by all small organisations. Families and other professionals who look for the Wightmark can be confident that any of the organisations who are accredited have given serious consideration to the appropriate management of staff, volunteers and finances and has shown due regard to the sustainable use of resources.
Approximately 20 organisations have achieved this Wightmark and are
indicated by the following Wightmark logo on WightChYPs website
During 2011 Wightmark has been revised to include enhanced criteria especially with regard
to inclusive practices and disability awareness. All organisations providing Short Breaks are
now required to achieve the new Wightmark and will display this logo.
Organisations securing the Wightmark Award can benefit from having the Award logo
attached to their details on the WightChYPS website, the marketing and profiling
opportunities that it provides. The Wightmark will be promoted through this site as a
quality standard that children, young people and parents can look for.
